yes, our g is more throaty, but it's not like the german, the german is too soft for us like tommy emmanuel once told: dutch is not a language, it's a throat disease.. so you should talk like you have a throat disease you gotta feel the 'g' in the back of your throat
and i dunno the real difference in te v of violin or the f in father, but take the v in violin, it's a soft one

i learned polish a teeny tiny bit, i can only say:
ras, dwza, trze, sterre (i dunno how to write polish, this is one, two, three, four)
    koerde (damn)

my guitar teacher is polish, so he learned me koerde (by saying it all the time when he lost something ) and i went to two courses in poland, and they kept counting and some girl taught me the 'i am' stuff, which i only remember half and she taught me how to say 'i love you' which i forgot

btw try to say ten times really fast: zeven scheve schotse schaatsen schaatsen scheef!!! and the sch have to be pronounced like a g (a throaty g, really hard) even the dutch have problems saying this sentence

bonjour, comment vas-tu, aujourd'hui ? i thought this was frence for hi, how are you today..

Opps my Englisch was a bit off...lol I meant to write..."Why" not "What" d'oh! I go to fix it now!

However, it was an easy mistake b/c "What are you looking at?" and "Why are you looking at me?" imply the same thing in American English.

I heard form one of my German teachers that the Dutch try to set themselves apart form German. I guess she was right! lol

My father-in law is Polish and speaks it well...never taught it to my Husband...such a shame to me. I try to pick up a bit from him. He sings "Happy Birthday," in Polish, to anyone who has a birthday in my family. The words mean something very different than the English version.

You'll do fine. Your English here has been great!

HA HA...i'm asian. speak chinese, taiwanese, english, and a little of japenese.

chinese we use this system called pin yin. and have an alphabet of our own. but we don't use the alphabet to create a word just our own way of how to pronouce something. we use characters to create words, every character is unique in its own way. not like english where we use the same letters. also we have tones...which are ways to say the words. it's sort of complicated to explain.
the easiest thing i can think of right now is hello in chinese, i can't actually write it down. but i can give a spelling of how to pronounce it!
              HELLO: nee how (pronounciation)
but the english is catching on now...so alot of people say hello or hi. but it's still nice to know the PROPER way.

I heard that before but don't remember in which context.
Anyway it's nice to know that because what most people on this forums know/recognize in Chinese and Japanese is "the door is locked", lol!

                  So true lol!

                  Bone2stone,
Maybe you could teach us the words: "The key is hidden here." lol jk
Anyway, that is so cool to hear. I cannot read or say anything in any Asian languages...except for my new learned greeting from you.

Here is goodbye salve(the "v" is pronouced like a "w")

thanks. i think it's cool to know something like Latin. but it would be even cooler if someone knew a really really dead language.

THANKS: xie xie (in pin yin)

Thanks: she-a she-a AHH!!! it's so hard to write it down for someone to pronounce. and there's a tone for this word.

                          she-a she-a and say it REALLY fast. don't go.....she----------a no. that's not it. hmmm.....oh i know.

Taiwanese for Thanks: sa sa (pronouciation) "sa sa" the s is like ssssssssss...and the a is just how you say the letter a. almost like saying "say" but not really.the tone is "down" umm....like when you thANKS. the ANKS goes down. err...is exaggarated. AHH>>>>i'm so bad at explaining this. i'm so sorry.

No, you explained well I guess. It is difficult to explain how to pronounce things, but you did well. I practised a bit. I guess I have to find someone from Taiwan tomorrow and say it, then wait for the reaction to know if I did it well ;-)

                                thanx!
well right now i'm trying to think of something else that is easier to explain. i just have to think. think. think. think. ahhh!!!! ummm.....
YOUR WELCOME chinese: bu???? kuh!!!!!!!! chi!!!!!!!!!
ok. it looks stupid. but it's the best way i can do to make the tones here.
? the question mark is just the tone you set when you say this word. it's almost like you are asking a question. such as.....HELLO????? that tone. just say BU??? not buh! but Booo???????
! well that is when you set a tone when you go YES!!!!!! just say kuh!!!! and same thing with chi........cheeeee....

i'm doing my best here. but now with the ???? and !!! it looks stupider. ahhh...well i gotta go. have chinese school in 30 min.
