Can't get things to combine

Got it now...was combining in the obvious way and that was not the right way

This game has quite a number of different screens. I have the eyedropper and book.
I opened the bedroom drawer but, can't pick up the key and I can't find anything else to P/U....not sure if game not working or if there's something I'm missing....?
