Yvonne, it is a Southern US dish. Sometimes the gravy is made from the grease left after frying Breakfast sausages. And some times it can be made with coffee instead of water, then it becomes Red Eye Gravy.

Maybe I will get the chance to try it sometime but it doesn't sound like breakfast food to me.

2. Some foods got a hold in the south following The Great Depression and became standard menu items. If the biscuits are good, and the gravy is home made, it can be tasty and filling. Another staple here is grits, made from hominy. I do not care for them. But many people do.
