              It does, or it did I should say. There is a modern day equivalent that is far more efficient. What they were used on aren't really used much anymore, at least not to the extent they were a couple centuries ago.

                    really interesting how the notches face away from the movement. I am guessing the long handle/lever operates it. Think we are going to need more clues.
