Korczak Ziolkowski began the sculpture on Thunderhead Mountain in 1948 and died in 1982. His wife and seven of his ten kids continue the work, which will be 641 feet long and 563 feet tall. Work continues on the horse's head, bigger than all of the Rushmore's White Men faces combined.

I saw both monuments... this one is HUGE.
