From now on, it is not allowed to post hotlinked images, except when the site clearly states or encourages to use a direct link to the image they provide. Those sites often offer an embed link along with the image you only have to copy and paste.
If you are not sure if it is allowed to hotlink a image, simply DON'T!
Instead you can:
1. Save the image onto your computer and use manage attachments to upload it here. (See the thread HERE for help with attachments.)
2. Use a free image host to upload images, like imagehost.org, photobucket, imageshack, etc, and then use the provided forum link.
Hotlinking is embedding an image in a post using the [IMG] tags with the image URL in it.
For example [IMG]http://www.image.com/image.jpg[/IMG]
Hotlinking is in fact bandwidth theft (unless the site gives permission to use an embedded link to the image) because it puts an additional strain on the original server. This means that viewing/loading hotlinked files are paid by the other server owner.
Furthermore hotlinking can bring security issues along with it. The person, who controls the server from where you hotlink, can theoretically change the hotlinked file, and redirect you to malicious content.
Thank you very much in advance.
