Well that is strange. Especially that it has remains a mistery for all those years. I can amagine that you are scared when in the middle of the night something is jumping on you. That is a thing which guinea pigs can't do. So maybe guinea pigs are the best pets for you and your kids.
The rabbits were walking free at night? Didn't they had a cage whitch you could close? And you were scared that you would lay down on a bunny or that the rabbit would wake you up because he jumped on you?
Yes, we thought of that aswell.
I just had some childhood memories when our 2 rabbits jumped in the night on our bed and were jumping around on us - I was scared to death waking up on someone jumping on me ;-)
I'm not fond of cats really (at least I don't want to have one), so it's going to be guinea pigs I think. I had 2 of them as a child and they are really cute.
What about a rabbit Mistery. They can be 12 years old, but that is more a exception then a rule. The average age is 6-9 years. But guinea pigs are also good fun to have, especially in a group.
