Perhaps you got a higher score because you reached a higher level?
Also, if I am correct, when you replay the game your previous hits and misses will be added to your total, but this doesn't influence your score, only your percentage of accurate. I could be wrong about it, though.

They seem to boo at the end no matter how good you do. I haven't heard them cheer yet.
