I can't seem to use the brush on the painting...

I can't--when I click it, it just expands to examine it.

have the paintbrush highlighted before you click on the picture frame!

Anyone out there know what I do after the computer tells me the door is unlocked?

Thanks for the hints, but I'm still missing something.

I have both the picture and the brush. I can click on the picture, but it just expands and I cannot place it on the frame. If I click on the brush, then the frame, nothing happens. If I'm viewing the picture and click the brush, nothing happens.

I feel like a dunce for not getting this... grrr!

Not the picture in your inventory. The blank picture frame on the wall. click the corners in the order shown in the hint to the left of crimson box
