i have retained such things as the cooler and shotgun (which I placed, then took back, and they are no longer in my inventory. Plus, inventory items overlap one another. Also, my ice sandwich is gone !!

A bug, or is this happening to everyone ?

RBS, I'm sure you can work it out - you need to get certain items in order to be able to collect others. I was struggling with it also, but suddenly it worked.
