i've been playing for almost 2 hours. still stuck on the stupid card puzzles and the weight thingy. have to stop now. i suppose to be studying as i hav a major test tommorow

The notes open the briefcase:

Elements & their atomic #'s (Note: You order them by atomic number...hint hint hint):

EAT: H1 (Note in sofa cushions)
ASK: He2 (Note under toy dog)
HACK: Li3 (Note under the mattress)
SPEAK: Be4 (Note on white books)
SLEEP: C5 (Note under 2 pigs)
REMOVE: B6 (Computer)

Note if you follow the underlined letters it spells: ESCAPE

You also need what you have from the cat puzzle, which gives you abcde -> 15333.

It is the hint to use YOUR keyboard... number the letters you have in vertical rows (mentally) on your keyboard. For example:
A = 1
B = 5
C = 3
D = 3
E = 3
F = 4...etc.

Use the letters in ESCAPE and you should get: 323103.
Use this code to get the key and a green power cord out of the briefcase.

Hint: ignore suits. There's only 4 cards & 1 from each suit. You must look at each individual column to see which cards are not matching between one column and the next, and are placed wrong. If still stuck it is: 2 4 6 8 10 Q A 3 5 7 9 J K 2 4 6 8

I just figured out that we need to put the element with the 4 squares on it next to the scales (when they're still in the drawer). You can then start to try and solve the puzzle. That's where I'm stuck, no idea how to solve the damn thing.

use the knife on the picture on the wall. then you have to use another inventory item again on the picture, I forgot which one though

the two smallest is 1 the next is 2 then 4 and the last 8. combine them from 1-23 and right down the coresponding symbol for eatch number.
Then use the numbers you got from the painting to find what symbols to use, then tranfear the symbols (from the computer image) in that order to the TV picture and you got the code for the door.
