My problem is, once I put the blocks in, the letters disappear and just show squares where the letters should be.

I played the game yesterday and didn't have this problem. I will replay it now to see what's happening. I kept on getting the NORMAL END no matter what I did. I know there should be other ends too.

I have the general idea on the better end, but I keep running into the disappering pink letters.

Made terrible notes - think I'll restart. Missing at least items 9 and 11 .. Think I'll restart and note where I found things. That way I can tell if a hint is something new or not.
