You need to put the batteries (coin looking things) into it for it to work, you need four of them!

Thanks for all the hints especially about the code. I had actually solved the code myself, but thought I was wrong because

on my paper two of the lines added up to 19, but the code XIX which is the right answer is surely 21?!.

I may well be wrong about this as I am of little use when it comes to codes, but I'm still confused....

@ Mrsepeel... XX is 20; XXI is 21; XIX is 19; You alsways subtract the smaller number if it is BEFORE the larger no. so XIX is 10 + (10-1).... does that make sense!!

when you zoom under the desk to the puzzle, stay in that picture and click on the arrow at the top of the picture to get a view of the underside the desk.
