What's the use of a Fire spell, if it can't light a torch... Is there a money back guarantee for this wand/spell?

About the light, and this is a hint I didn't figure out myself,

you learn spells by tracing the shapes on the pieces of paper with the magic wand

put wood from the chest in the fireplace, stuffed blanket (enlarged handkerchief) in the chimney, watered it, light the fire. I cannot phoenix the boards on the window back, I can play around with lighting candle/torch, putting them out, restoring them But to what use?

Have no idea what to do next, I don't want to die again!

When you put the torch out, a secret compartment in the chest reveals a shrinking spell and an emerald. Don't know how to use them...

What is a grue and why does it keep eating me?!

This game drove me crazy. Wish it didn't have the time limit - I think more people would stick with it if they had more time to work through it Too frustrating having to restart over and over.

I was stuck with the emerald also... Stop playing with the emerald for now. I had been missing a step. Another poster mentioned dying by suffocation (or almost...). That wasn't happening to me, so I was missing something... When I figured that out and got smoke, that let me to where I needed to continue
