Indeed, the game is tricky, more like a puzzle than a room escape, and certainly not fun for everyone.

Yes, I did everything you said. However, I found nowhere to use the key (either that, or the game didn't LET me use it).

Hmmm, for me it worked twice.
If I did exactly what I posted, there was a keyhole on the floor.
But maybe you are still missing something else...
Have you been able to turn around the two arrows between two rooms?

Yes, I did all of this. I must be missing somethin, 'cause I don't see a keyhole anywhere.

lifted the "R" out of the floor and used the T in the hole there?

Yes, I've done this. However, I'm not sure: Do I leave it there? Or do I have to remove it and use it somewhere else?

Yes, you have to remove it, otherwise you can't follow the steps I've described
You need to insert the T into the middle cube in the cubes room

I escaped! There must have something in your earlier post that I simply misread, because I tried again and followed your instructions to the letter, which allowed me to escape this time. Thank you so, so much for being so patient with me!
