Don't know the two number codes, nor can I get the key.

lowest position enter 2, click handle, move to next position enter 7, click handle

Don't think it was

pencils - was squares and triangles - but don't remember where from!!

I am pretty sure you have to do that first, but even with the answer, I had to force it.

Out, this was really a nice one.
Did have to start over because I used an item too soon and missed a clue.

After I did what tipper75 said in the spoiler it worked for me.
That was the clue I missed. Did it before it was complete and didn't get the clue.

I used

pen light on box, but couldn't use battery on it. Couldn't find a way either to turn the box around

Turn penlight arround and you can open the bottom to put battery in, then put penlight in box and on the front of the box you will see which pencil comes first, the sharpened ones or the others.

Maybe you should restart again to do everything in the right order.
I had to do that because my order was wrong and I couldn't get any further.

However I have to restart anyway, because after

I put the pen into the box, my pen was gone - not even in the box

Maybe that was a bug - or the game creator didn't think of this possibility of stupid player

So now I'm equipped with hints to get through this time, thanks all

Agreed Hanfgarn. I still dont understand how beasty got that one.
We see

how many books of different colours are on the respective shelves

but can see how to relate that to the safe..
I also forgot that I put

the sugar cube in the water

and was looking forever for the red marble DOH!
Otherewise a well crafted game (with relaxing atmosphere)
