Edit:
I asked a friend of mine (who speaks a little Japanese) what the symbol on the tea pot in the basement meant, and she said

I looked it up and it said it means a Tatami mat. Though, if it's used as a verb, it can also mean "to close"

2 tags on a string & a place to put some kind of code, also something under the couch that I can't pock up
