Alexander on EG24 was kind enough to post a solution to the wheel safe.

I numbered the "wheels" like this:

The sequence is:
3311 2244 1211 333 143

Another tricky part for me was finding the

thread

which becomes a

wick for the oil lamp

To find this:

turn right from the door view and click the fourth screen from the right, at the lower panel

One last tip is to drag items to use them - the item box lighting up is a little misleading.
The graphics for this Living Room are gorgeous, but for me it was less of a game, and more of an excersise in looking for help.
