In first screen you see a werid picture on the wall, remember the symbols and go left, and then again left into next room. There are same symbols which was on the wall, hit the buttons in right order. That should open the "box thing" and you'll get your first key.

password was: nimble, quick, candlestick (something like that, it was the title of the book) And you don't need it, in password box, there's a little button, clicking on it will open the door

You wont kill it with colt, you should use shotgun. To change gun press "2" on your keyboard. Good luck.

If you go back to the original room where the fireplace code was, with the wierd window, click on the ticking clock and it should ask you if you want to take the gear.
