I am so frustrated with this safe nonsense. I got the code off the URL, tried it in every possible combination and still haven't managed to get through. I know this is practically the end of the game, so don't want to give up now. Please help.

ok what u need to do is put in 5772 for the combination, then use the normal key (its the black one) one the keyhole and the safe should pop open. inside is a screwdriver that other posts say u have to use it with the doorknob but that wont work for me and im stuck

Thanks for that. The code you gave didn't work, but bizarrely, the one I got from the URL two days ago (7208) did! After that it was easy peasy to complete.

This is the definitely not the kind of frustration I'm looking for in a game!

step by step:

The thin ring is found in the dish on the dresser where the CD player is
The CD is found in the top left drawer of the dresser
The piece of paper is found in the top right drawer of the dresser
There is a cassette underneath the dresser, find it by clicking on the floor around the dresser
The silver key is in the window when you open the curtain
A thick ring is found by opening and closing the curtain multiple times. it will fall down to the floor after a few clicks
Golden key: look underneath the pillow
Metal stick: click around the area where headboard and mattress meet
Battery: click on the floor while facing the blank wall. Click around the area towards the left. Keep clicking. Trust me, it's there.
Power cord: open bottom left drawer with golden key
Box: open bottom right drawer with silver key
Normal key: plug power cord to CD player, turn CD player on and open disc tray.

These are all of the items, and you now need to assemble the box. Click on the little box icon to expand it. Put the two rings in the little round holes and the metal stick in the long, narrow slit. Click the box and it will open. Place battery and cassette. Click box again and a movie will play. Watch it closely. Pay attention to the end: the dancer points at a star that appears on the wall. You need to place your mouse pointer over the star (don't click yet). When the movie finishes, click there and the outline of a box would appear. Click on the box outline and a safe will appear. To open the safe, use the normal key and a combination.
Hint on finding the combination: remember that almost every item has a purpose. Skip no detail, the combination could even reside on a website.
It seems a lot of people are having problem with the combination for the safe. The next hint is a major spoiler.

How to do it

get the key on the window, the ring that falls from the window on the floor, the tape under the desk, another key under the pillow, one metal stripe on the bed?s top (click on the corner of the bed under the pillow), an one battery by the side of the bed (get it by clicking in one of those corner of the clean wall close to the floor). Use the keys to open the desk?s compartiments, and get the cable. Turn on the cd player using the cable, get a key inside it. Put the rings and the metal stripe on top of the box, then you will be able to open it. Put the battery and the tape in, and see the movie. Click on the center of the star apponinted by the guy on the end of the film. You have to click it 3 times, just after the video finishes, but before the camera gets back to the cd player view.
Then you click on the square on the wall and you will see the safe. Punch in the code that you get on that url, get the screwdriver and open the door.

In Crimson Room, if you find the first 12 hidden things in the room, you will need to go to the URL on the slip of paper to find the 4 digit combination to the safe (assuming you can later find the safe). The .jpg of the URL was hard to read, so I put the link below. You still need to find and "get" the slip of paper with the URL to complete the game.
