Ok, I've done a bit of poking around on the net, and it seems the game is set in a 9x9 grid. Also, there seems to exist only 5 points of reference:

In my search, I've discovered this chart:

All that being said, it seems your placement in this maze is random, so there is no definite start position and thus no clear cut way to find your way to any of the points of reference.
In regards to the buttons and the wall:

All that being said, this game is far too hard to be enjoyable and I can't believe I've devoted this much time to it. I'm going to go play Solitaire or bang my head against a wall or something equally more enjoyable than the blank white rooms.

hahah drgrnbrn316, good find. sorry you spent so much time figuring that out. it's a terrible game especially if you are placed randomly in the map

I've found the compass (a huge help to tell what way you are turned) and I saw a BLACK button on a wall somewhere. It did nothing that I can tell so far. Also, going straight forward from the black button, I counted 9 rooms before I came back around to the same black button. I also passed a room with only 3 doors somewhere along the way.

You have done great, but this game is still wasting time. Everybody gets bored to this, but still thanks for that picture, it pictured to me how it could do.
What is better than room escape games???? =)

If i get bored, I go to play Action Quake 2.

I SURVIVED! I pushed the buttons in this order: black button, (here I got the compass) white button & blue button, I went through the red door and there was a ladder, I climbed up and TA-DAH! "You survive".

sometimes people just need to be rescued.

(just want to know for my own information, I have no idea if it comes into play in the game. They do seem to all be names of the four lords of the burning dawn from tenchu 2.)
These characters are from the Japanese manga, Fushigi Yuugi by Yuu Watase, and Genbu is the spirit that protects one of the regions inside the book, Universe of the Four Gods, the four gods being Suzaku, Seiryu, Byakko and Genbu.

To skip the Japanese myth lesson, Genbu is represented by a green turtle
