After I ckicked myself mad, I went back to the room to search for other things. Then I came back opened and closed the window in rest (slow clicking) and then I saw suddenly the screwdriver falling down. Maybe the slowly clicking in rest and peace is the trick here?

Used the fossil in the new room and saw two holes in the form of a square .

fossil back on the stone thingy once I have put it there onces already, removed it, and stopped the water. And yeah....I've tried.

No, I can return to the shrine thingy. I just can't put the fossil back on it once I have placed it the first time, and picked it back up again.
