I thought I couldn't do much at the beginning, but found the hotspots.

I think the books were a red herring too. I clicked on them a few times!

Great game, very tricky. Everything seemed to have a purpose except the books behind the two sliding doors (the ones on the right drew a clickable icon) Will play it again to see if and what they did. They weren't mentioned in Raven Night's walkthru so probably a red herring.
