no. but i randomly clicked there (on the floor) and it worked. still no closer to working out the code though. more help needed i think.

pull rope to get green orb. Use orb on upper drawer. Take ladder from bottom drawer. Select ladder (not sure if necessary), and click on green vase, push yellow button on it to get paper and star. Put star on wall next to door, this will show you the trap door for downstairs

I don't remember which combo I was using when I finished, but I used

3 5 9 (in different variations) and always the 8 as fourth number

it doesn't. i had to click the floor for the trapdoor to appear.
so how is the code worked out then? that x9 clue means stuff all.
