just about everywhere you can get stuck someone has posted the solution in this thread.
it's only 5 pages long.

Ok, I'm stuck. I've gotten

Key (used), Lighter(used), cockroach, broom, paper, kite string, hook and towel.

I haven't been able to

attach the kite string to the cockroach or the hook, nor do anything with the paper.

I found three different letters, and tried to use their alphabetic sequence to open the safe, and no luck.

Hmmmm.....

Hi Purp! Thanks for the get well wishes. I'm working on it.

What you need to do first is:

open the safe with the letters you found in their numerical sequence. Pay close attention to the color code on the same piece of paper that gave you how to solve what the letters represented. If you're still stuck, I'm going by memory, but I think the code was

92019

Once you have done that, you should be able to do the other things you mentioned.
