and sticky -- you can only have one item in your inventory at a time. use narsa's box to free space up if you need.

in front of window/cage (?) for the cat, and the cat is gone now

before a door for which the cat sits and probably to wait

You need to

first click a few times on the cat, then you can take it

At least this way it worked for me.
