how can you get the fire x-tiniusher? i stood in front of it, and clicked every where!!!

There is a certain order in things in the game. After the tie, look for a crowbar.

Edit: And the elevator door I meant is the one downstairs.

Full Walkthrough

Click Left Arrow. Get tie from shirt. Click Right Arrow, Up arrow will now be available. Click it. Click door handle. TIe will be put on handle, you may open and enter. CLick hole to return to main room. Click LH side of elevator door. click crowbar that appears there. Up arrow to second floor room. Face other way, and click box on the RH side of door. CLick big red button. Trun around. Click fire extinguisher. PLace on bars. DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING YET!!! return to bottom floor. Left arrow to shirt. click shirt pocket. get ball. Return to second floor. Place ball in fire ext. CAREFULLY CLICK HANDLE OF EXTINGUISHER. NOWHERE ELSE!!! Take axe. CLick axe in inventory, then fire extinguisher to blast hole in the wall. return to bottom floor, L arrow to shirt. click hangar 2x. Click hanger in inventory to bend. return to second floor. face hole in wall, use hanger on hole. click arrow on wall to escape. ;D

I'm exhausted climbing back and forth - evidently really between two shafts .. what building has an elevator above another?
I now have the

axe

and can find no place to use it. Time to read hints.
I erred in leaving that area after getting item? will restart and see.

this game has like a billion ways of making you repeat steps, its kind of annoying
