It doesn't do anything...

I've got the hammer, oil can (used), key (used), and soldering iron (used). I've put the compass and the blue hexagonal gem in the cat statue.

If you

take out the blue gem and place it where the compass is pointing a drawer opens beneath it.

Ye, I got stuck there as well. Finished it though, with a little help from this forum.
