You do it in different numbers. in other words, you count the shelves separately.

press the symbols on the box and then the middle button.....then you can play the message on the phone...
I am completely stuck now at this point and can't figure out the briefcase or the other box's code.
Any suggestions?

The breath case code is the number of green books on the right hand side of the shelfs

the top row is the 1st number
the 2nd row is the secand number and the third row is the therd hope this helps

i found your walkthrough on puzzle 8, brilliant, but i have a new problem now, part 2............. oh boy! don't know anything about nucleotides, she wants to know the name, i put DNA, she wasn't very impressed with me, any ideas that could help would be greatly received.

Walkthrough for part 2

MSN Conspiracy Game Part 2

1. Pick up the piece of paper in the doorway. Then click return (the arrow pointing up).
2. Click on the yellow square. Click on "surface temperature 5780 K" and she'll ask you what surface gets hot. Clue: The biggest star in our solar system-Sun
3. Next, she'll ask what relates the project Daedalus to the Sun. The answer is Icarus.
4. Click on the note. She'll ask about a relationship between one of the usernames and Brave New World. The answer is Haldane.
5.Go back to the yellow screen. Type HALDANE next to username and ICARUS next to password. Then press enter on your keyboard.
6. Now you'll be talking about nucleotides. Fun. Look up a ma or just click "done" ad read ahead here. She'll ask about the shape on the map and a corresponding nucleotide. Type ADENINE
7. Then look back at the note. Look closer at "All Conditionings Aims At That" Notice ACAAT. Type that in.
8. Go back to the yellow screen. Type in ACAAT next to "enter gene sequence".
9. Now, click on the floor panel and choose one of the women to stand on it.
10. Click on the piece of paper on the floor.
11. She'll ask about the faded name. Notice she gives you the address. Look it up, it's not hard to find on a map. Or, just type in CHEZ LAURENCE PATISSERIE.
12. Next, she'll ask about the mysterious item that costs so much. This will seem strange, but type in MANHATTAN.
13. Next, she''l ask about a connection between Laurence and Manhattan. It's a PROJECT...involving the name MANHATTAN...*hint hint*.
14. Now go to the cigar. She'll ask about the name and the relation to either the project or Laurence. Type in BOMB."
15. Next, she'll ask about the connection between Cuba and nuclear weapons. Type MISSILE CRISIS.
16. Now she'll ask about the beer bottles;more specifically, the broken one. In the search bar, type in: Titat+Jupiter+Thor, then hit enter. There will be three website that you can go to, but you won't have to because the answer is right there. It starts with A and ends with S.
17. Go to the clipboard. She'll ask about a specific sate during the missile crisis. Type in OCTOBER 26.
18. Now go to the thumbwheels. Turn the wheels until they read: 26 OCT 62
19. Click return.
Click on the door handle. Now, this part took me forever because of all the information to look up. Again., click on the floor panel. The other lady will stand on it.
20. Click on the two pieces of paper (one is on the floor, and the other one is near the valves).
21. Click on the scroll that you picked up near the valves. It'll be a piece of sheet music. The question is: what song are the lyrics from? It the search bar, type: "While you here do snoring lie, Open-ey'd Conspiracy" and press enter . You'll see the answer right there. Type it in the answer box.
22. Now look at the valves. She'll ask about the connection between Morehouse and one of the instruments. The first answer is MARY CELESTE. Set the valve to what she tells you to.
23. The next one is MARY ROSE and the depth was 12 metres (yes, that is spelled correctly, metres). Set the valve to that.
24. The connection between Hartely and another instrument is that Blockbuster movie...about a ship...staring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet...
25. It was 12,400 feet. Type that in (only type 12400 feet). Set the valve to where she tells you.
26. Strachey was a survivor of the SEA VENTURE shipwreck....*hint hint*
27. It didn't sink. Hint: it is a punishment parents give that usually lasts for a week or so. Type in the answer and then set then valve to where she tells you to.
