You summed it up for me as well. Have torch and unopened cherry and not that many places to explore. Mousing like crazy for the next usable hotspot.

I made it to the room of secrets. Looks like I have some conjuring to do. Off to look for the things in the recipe wheel.

Are the keys needed to unlock other places all found inside the anthill? I have two left but neither is the right one I need.

Double checking...nope. These two are not a match.

the geared door to vivarium, the shielded chamber, the rubble over the well. I can do the spider if I can get into vivarium but that's the key I am missing or need another piece to combine with one I have

For geared door

you need to combine two half runes indeed.
One is on the big mushroom in the Hall, the other in the Hall of Vault on the right (under the Chamber with Hatch)

Oh, and RBS, when you combine you do not click on the VIEW ITEM or whatever it's called. Just click on one part and combine it with the another right there in the inventory.
