You are right, the server is very very slow at the moment.
Same thing happened also for their other games when they were new, there were probably too many hits as lots of players wanted to play at the same time. Hopefully the situation will change after a few days.

after you have the backpack and you are stood at the side of the river what are you supposed to do? i click the map then the island then i just get stuck on a blue screen. i have tried refreshing and starting again but it just keeps doing it. is htere something else i should be doing?

For the Zoo~

You will need to use your sleeping bag and then the panda will come closer. Then click on the lever and he will allow you into the zoo.

For the blue screen~ it just seems to take a long time to load, I just close the window and come back and check it later and then I can go on to the next town.
