Nope I KNOW I had picked up

the sticks. They just didn't go into my inventory. And I already had the rope/thread and cloth.

I restarted and it worked fine the next time and I completed the game. Checked other sites to see if I was just lucky, or if it was a game bug, and it seems others experienced it too. So, for future gamers, you might come across a bug on Plan D that requires a restart. But it's a super cute game.
