I still have no idea on what to do. How do you get 35.000? Do you have to enter that in somewhere?

The secret of it all mine walthrough and hints

First, for those who simply need a hint about how to enter the codes

Use the orange arrow button to the far right in the inventory to access the lift, where you will enter every code for the game. When you discover a new code, press the orange button and erase the old code, and enter your new code to access the next level.

To solve the game yourself with hints:

1.

Open all of your presents, and take the bus ticket
2.Enter the mine and read Gramps book
a.what should you be wearing btw? (this is not a code just a suggestion)
3.Enter code found in book for access to the first puzzle
4.First puzzle – click the double doors
5.You see layers of rock – read Gramps book about sedimentary rock – where does it appear the MOST fossils are located? Match that layer with a description of rock from the book - click orange arrow in the far right of inventory and enter the name you come up with in the lift’s text box
a.If you would like, you may chip the stones with your pick, and click on the P.G.D and drag the rock you have chosen into the device to be dated – the name wil appear in the text box of the device – enter that name in the lift’s text box – press GO
6.You are faced with a number of fossils. Use pick to chip samples and analyze the two you get.
a.the number occurring between these two numbers is your code (between 30,000 – 40,000)
7.Use blunt hammer to break samples. Analyze in PGD and read about metamorphic rock – which is hardest? That is your code
8.Gold puzzle. Chip samples with pick and analyze in PGD. Read book and determine the name of the gold found by Gramps. This is your code.
9.You find the big fossil! Snap a picture! Now your a hero.

The easy walkthrough:

1.

Open all of your presents
a.Grandpa calls you over to look for his artifact
b.Take the bus ticket from your momma
2.Enter the mine and enter the code don’t forget to click on your hardhat!
a.what should you be wearing?
b.Code: Sedimentary
3.First puzzle – click double doors
4.You’ll see layers of rock, with trilobites in the grey layer – the grey layer is mudstone
a.Code: mudstone
b.click the orange arrow far right in the inventory to advance and enter code in the lift textbox and press GO
5.Enter the double doors and you will see many fossils. Use your pick to collect samples
6.Click on PGD and place samples one by one into machine.
a.Trilobite = 40,000
b.Bone = 30,000
c.The skull is between those two – at 35,000 and this is your code for the next level.
d.Enter 35000 into the lifts text box
7.Use your blunt hammer to break samples
a.Place them into the PGD and analyze
b.Read book about metamorphic rock; the hardest is marble.
c.Enter Marble into lift’s text box
8.Next puzzle is about gold. Chip away samples, and analyze
a.Read the book concerning Gold, and the type of gold that is yellow and shiny. It’s Alluvial
b.enter Alluvial into lift’s text box
9.You reach the big fossil! And must snap a pic. Now your a big hero!

sorry, reading the book is a bit annoying, especialy when you just want to play.
The second walkthrough I put up doesn't require the book at all. Just codes to levels, and all references to the book are just to show the steps I used to actually get the codes.

This game would be good for grade-schoolers...esp. 5th and 6th graders studying rocks and stuff.

Yep

My father does alot of gold prospecting. If it wasn't for him showing me the differences between all the different types of rocks I think I would have been lost in this game. LOL I thought it was fun and very educating for school age kids and those who don't know much about the different layers of the earth.
