I can't find a second ending in this one. Their games have always had one in the past though. I'm surprised if there isn't one.

Not really. I'm pretty sure there was at least one with one ending only. Anyway, most of the time when there are two endings, they would put a "Normal/Perfect ending".

I got as far as giving that 2nd thing the wood with a bird, axe and teapot & now I can't do anything. Have I completed the game or not? I can't tell.

Erm, it's completed when the bare tree(starting one that had the rabbit) blooms.

I think you need to get the carrot(not sure if you did that). Use the teapot on the blue background behind the crab. Then use it on the small grass patch below the fighting ring.

I've got a fire going on behind where the beaver thing was, but it doesn't want to go out or anything, and I can't seem to do anything else.

There is a 2nd ending you can use the ash on the fruit tree.

They aren't cherries. Lol. Cherries are small and red. That fruit is a persimmon. The "Big Cherry Trees" refer to cherry blossoms. There's another ending though,

Use the ashes on the bare tree's branches to make the flowers blossom.

Happy crab ending .. until I grab him and toss him in a pot of boiling water with seasoning - if I could just find a big pot. Maybe I shouldn't have put out the fire? LOL
