Meta-Word Link I

Word Link is back, and it is PUMPED UP after receiving an injection of syllabic-steroids and a dose of beta-amped compound words.
The new and improved Meta-Word Link:
• is Bigger
• has Multiple Entry Points
• has Open Linking – The links are not only compound words, but also movies, places, expressions, products, etc. So TRIPLE could link to THREAT, SEC, CROWN, JUMP....
There are also people in the puzzle, but only ones whose names are both words, like Red Buttons or Frank Burns.

In addition, this puzzle has an overall theme, which leads to solving the master--or meta puzzle.
There are 18 Meta Clues concealed in the puzzle. These are in yellow. Once all 18 of these clues are exposed a player can attempt to guess the meta-answer. Watch the right hand upper corner.

Okay, got some of the numbers, but I'm at a loss for the middle section. The only word that comes to mind when I think about meddling is "mother-in-law" and that doesn't fit.

It will work in Chrome as well. I imagine it'll work in most any browser except IE.

Using this...I figured out something else:

I kept trying bronze as one of the "Olympic Medals" but it doesn't work, so I tried another METAL that looks like bronze and it worked...and then I kept trying more types of metals...It worked...Oh...this might help as well: for one of the metals, think coins.

Okay, so, kinda repeating what RBS said, but also making it a little more accurate.

Here is a hint about the middle section for those of you just starting...

Well, the first thing revealed to you is "Meddle With Me". If you read RBS's post, you know to try something that sounds like meddle, like maybe medal. This is partially correct, you are looking for a word that sounds like meddle, but it is not medal.

So think metal...

Try different types of metal.

One or more of the types of metals may not be in solid form (think different states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases).

In the previous word link puzzles we have posted our general progress (without specific answers) and whoever wanted help asked, sometimes by PM.

In peak hours when many are playing at once we make pretty good progress.

I would say it is not necessary to post unsolicited answers. Hang onto them and let players ask when they get stuck.

Willing to share ideas and guesses with everyone
