Got the hat too, but the butterfly didn't take it... I saw it land in the empty boat. Either he lied to the Snail, or we got different endings

Interesting! I don't think I had a choice! But I could be wrong. I didn't think there were any actions that could be done during that sequence. I'll have to try again. But yeah, it was definitely a different ending. Poor snail.

He rode the hat-less butterfly home.

Mr. Snail didn't seem to care... he wore the thing on his SHELL anyway !!

Well, got the book and then had to opt to play again.
And you evidently can not have everything you want right off. Perhaps they will find it later?
