What was the point of the gems. I just replayed the entire game to ensure I got all the gems this time and the ending was exactly the same as before.

I was wondering that too, but I have no idea. I think I found 4, maybe 5.. not sure anymore. I was more focussed on the puzzles.

Unless there are more than 12 I think that I got them all the second time I played through. I would have thought there would at least some change at the end. The first time I played through I only had 3 of them and it was exactly the same.

Move the white block all the way to the right side.

thanks, but it doesn't revert to how it was if you leave and come back so if you mess up you have to stasrt the whole game over, annoying

You are

adding the previous number together with the current number and then subtracting 1

Look at the digits individually for each number and how they change. Notice anything?

I see how it's related but when I get to my last number I get a 3 digit number

Think of the numbers like the ones on an odometer. When they can't go any higher they roll over again to the beginning. (don't forget to adjust the other digit acordingly)
