One of the words is misleading...

Replace "am" with "is"

Replace "is" (from previous spoiler) with "="

It's not a math problem, so you don't need to add

dogcatdog, and applied the one step back/forward/other permutations to the lines...

Any clue by 4s, delivered directly to my head, would be appreciated

WolfHealr, try this:

You've figured out how to translate the lines, right? Take one step back in the alphabet. Another hint- ingnore the first three lines, they're just there to confuse you. The last line is the only one you need.

and that didn't work... I typed it with and without spaces... and as a sidenote, all the lines translate to what I said before, however

each line uses a different "stepping"/direction... first line is 3 steps back, second is 1 forward, third is 10 back

You only need to 'translate' the last line- to 'translate' the last line, take ONE step back in the alphabet
