the wheels for some reason made sense to me and i'm on the next one.

a small hint on an approach that worked, if you want it:

keep track of the letters at each stage, write 'em down. i ended up with a 6x4 matrix of letters at the end. (well, only 2 letters in the bottom row)

nice to hear another voice about that one...i can tell you that it takes some time....you have to choose a direction to go either clockwise or counterclockwise...not both as a gear would move. example....say the first gear is on A and the second is on C the first gear is to move two either left or right. going left the A will become C and the C will become A...follow....???
