thats quite easy. first beofre u get those u need to calm the daughter and talk to her then you can get the knife and piler and use those items.

God I'm an idjit sometimes! I tried to get that stuff BEFORE talking to the daughter, and didn't bother trying again afterwards... sheesh!

how do u get to this town?!? ive gone to the outside door from the wife (bottom right corner) but there is nowhere to go once outside.. jus a brick on the floor.. :s help!

Click near the top of the screen, where the laundry is hanging. You'll exit the alleyway and enter the town square.

how do you get back to your house?

When you're at the town square, click just above the G in "Go to" and it'll lead you back to the alleyway you exited your house in. Click on the door, and go back home.

how do I calm down his daughter? I've talked to her, but...

I've got the stuff to calm the daughter down. She comes out and says she feels better. I go back in and try to pick up the knife and it says I need to find a way to calm her down. What am I missing?

Talk to her again, now that she's out and she'll tell you the problem. Then you can pick up the knife.
