emo comes from the type of music certain people listen too, and how they dress etc.
Like Goths, and Punks, and Moshers... and so on
I think it comes from 'emotional' or something like that, but yeah it is just a slang term for people who like a certain music/fashion

Well, I dunno in what context you found "emo" so it can be more than one thing, I guess. Here is an example of what it could mean:
