    Ok here's the full story:

I downloaded the whole version last night by saving the file into my hard drive, then installing the program. This installed all the different components of the game.

However my configuration folder was empty and my pc couldnt open the "Save the Earth - Part 1.exe file because it couldnt find the appropriate program to open it with.

However I already have Flash 8, as verified by the albino site you posted.

I tried to uninstall the program but it couldnt uninstall all files. The Config folder (although it was empty) and the "Save the Earth - Part 1" files were not uninstalled with the uninstall feature and when I tried to delete them manually, the pc said it was in use by another person or program and I should try closing all related programs before I deleted those files. I had no other program running so I found that odd.

Ah bummer why do these things always happen to me..

I'm operating on a Windows XP Home edn by the way. And when I restarted my pc just now, it didnt wanna boot cos it was overheated.

Hmmm, your pc doesn't like my game.

No seriously, the game should run fine on XP Home Edition, I use it myself.
Overheating is certainly not related to the game.
My advice for now: Shut down your pc for some minutes to let it cool down.

Then use the alternative link I gave and download it again (click "run") and install it. It should overwrite anything that is left from your old installation. Try to run it again and tell me if it works.

Well, that didnt work out either. Looks like I'll have to abstain from downloadable games till I figure out what's wrong. What a shame!! *sniff sniff*

Thanks for all the help. At least we tried...

I'm sorry for that Wildlotus :-(
And I have no idea right now what the cause could be.
I'll move the last bit of this thread to the thread for discussion on problems with downloadable games.

              Hi Mystery,

Just like I told in Chit Chat, I was playing your extended version of Save the Earth, but I got some errors.

After I downloaded the game and wanted to start it (a new game), I got the following message:

An error has occurred. The game may not work properly. Click OK. Then press Control Q to quit. Error description:
Error in game. Additional Component is probably not installed properly. Component ‘COMDLG32.OCX’ or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

When I played further everything went fine, but after typing in the letter code to switch the last light on, the code bar didn’t go away and stayed visible through the rest of the game. But everything else seemed to work fine until I tried to save the sound (of the touch screen) for further examination: On that point I got the next error message:
An error has occurred. The game may not work properly. Click OK. Then press Control Q to quit. Error executing script. The scripting engine returned the following error message: Object required: ‘Component (…)’.

I am not sure if the further examination of the sound is required for the game, but I couldn’t hear the sound of the message of the touch screen very well. And I think the message of the screen is important.

In the same (last?) room I only find a music book (not certain what is anymore) but I didn't found out yet what to do with it. Futher examenation of the room gives me a vase which changes it's color by clicking on it and also I found some wierd puzzel with coloured XXXXX. It seems that I was really stuck, but maybe it has something to do with the errors, I am not sure of it.

So I quit the game, uninstalled it and downloaded the whole game again. But when started the game up, I got the same error message again.

I ignored it again, I played the game again, but all the errors I mentioned were still here.

So am I just stuck or are there indeed errors which block me to play the game probably?

I hope you can help with this, because I really like to finish this great game!

                Hi Adventure,

I have used for this game a plugin and it seems that something went wrong when my game was installed on your pc. The error message refers to this plugin that I used (COMDLG32.OCX). Have you tried to uninstall the game and reinstall it?
If not, please try to do this. If you still have problems after that, I will contact the maker of this plugin and ask for help. So far nobody had problems with it and I know that it was downloaded and played many times, so it is not a problem of the game, but rather a small error during the installation of the game. (As far as I remember, this is not the first time that your pc mixed up things during the installation of my games, right? Maybe it doesn't like my games )

The problem with the code bar was previously fixed, so I have no idea why this occurs to you. Maybe with a reinstall this would be solved aswell. You can try to make it disappear before you leave the room to be sure.

For the puzzles: You find a walkthrough on my website on the Walkthrough page, if you still need help, please post again

Yes, I reinstalled it again (I thought that I had mentioned that ), but I got the same error and problems. But wait, I will try it again....

Now I saved it instead of just opened it, maybe that will helps....hmmm it takes longer to download...but my computer is quite slow the last two days, however I cleaned it yesterday...99% is downloaded....100%!!! Oh, LOL, it's just an extra stap in the process, my computer is not slower then the other two downloads. OK set up is complete! Now let see what happens.

Shoot, No I still got the same error message!

BTW If my computer don't like your games, I am going to replace it. Actually it's already in the planning.

So the conclusion is: The error is still there. I am really sorry!

                    Hi Adventure,

Before I contacted the creator of the plugin, I downloaded the game myself and installed it on my pc to check once again - I had no problems at all. I hope to get an answer soon, and also that he has an idea. I'll post again as soon as I receive an answer

Adventure, you might miss a file on your pc that is needed (or it has a problem). Try to download it from here:

Follow the instruction and choose the appropriate version (I think you have Windows 2000 if I remember correctly):

Alternatively, you may download just the file you are missing and manually register it yourself. Here's how to do it:
Download COMDLG32.OCX (right click the text on the left and save to your Desktop).

Back up your current copy of COMDLG32.OCX and copy the new version to the same file location. This file should be located in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory on your C: drive (for Windows NT and 2000: \WINNT\system32).

Using your mouse, click on the "Start" button and then click on "Run".

According to your Operating System, type the following command to register this library file:

                        Windows 95, 98, or Me:
                        regsvr32 \windows\system\COMDLG32.OCX

                        Windows NT or 2000:
                        regsvr32 \WINNT\system32\COMDLG32.OCX

                        Windows XP:
                        regsvr32 \windows\system32\COMDLG32.OCX

You should see a message saying "DllRegisterServer ... succeeded"

(By the way it was not my idea but the plugin creator's, so again a huge thanks to ShadowHunter )
