You have to make sure that the image background is transparent. Sometimes the transparency setting does not work well when uploading

Okay, I fixed that... (just changed the save file on my site to that edited one you posted)

But how do you do that? So I don't run into that problem in the future.

Well, I used Microsoft GIF animator to enhance your smiley slightly. There is an option at the "image" tab called transparency. I make sure that the smiley has for example a white background, then I check the box beside "transparency", click the color that appears and choose white in the pop up window.
