Ahra was on the right track, but it's reasonable to invent a device for meat or nuts.
Think on something that you prepare at least 10 times faster with a knife.

your hint with the shape did it..and google They used it because all pieces where cut the same and it looked nice. You got those cutters "french sliced" or "straight cut".

nope. It's an household item. It sucks in and presses out. The thing at the bottom is loaded with a spring.

no spaghetti either. It was placed/held into something ....and the brass plunger has a spring...
nowadays we use a maschine for this household chore.
