hmmm. from crimson's clues it must be a safety thingy for "child-proofing" a home. My cousin's house is full of cabinet straps and other gizmos but not this one.

I will guess it covers electrical sockets.

I thought of doors too but the clue went on to say every house has at least 3 or more. That ruled out doors and doorknobs in my humble opinion.

New hint: The thing it covers does not usually turn 360 degrees... you turn it with your hand and probably use it daily.

EDIT: Just re-read the past several posts... are doors REALLY ruled out? I think most people would have a front door, a bedroom door and a bathroom door at the very least...
