Elsa Beskow?

Yes, of course Elsa Beskow was a Swedish childrens book author but to many she was more famous for her illustrations. Many of her books today are classics Here is an example

Born in Stockholm, she grew up and became an art teacher for a short period of time. I would say her books have been inspired by many of the old Swedish tales much like they influenced the Nobel prize winner Selma Lagerlِf once upon a time
