Question for people from USA
I have a question for the people that live in USA, or that studied in American schools.
In movies, normally, American schools are shown as big schools, with many students, and where most of students are divided by groups, the cheerleaders, the soccer (or other sport) players, the popular kids, the "nerds", the theatre group, etc. And the ones that are more popular, also normally comand the less popular student. My question is: is this really true, is it just fiction, or is it just too exagerated?
By the way, is there any other country, besides USA, where this happens? Here, in Portugal, it doesn't happen, at least not in the school where I studied, though, I don't live in the bigger cities, like Lisbon or Oporto (bigger cities in Portugal), and I don't know if that happens in those schools (but I don't think it does).

@ Doglover....Yes, it really does happen, but I think it usually is exagerated on television. I also have to say, there are exceptions to the rule. But, yes, more often than not, people really do stay in their "cliques." I had many friends in many different "cliques." Though, I also tended to stay with one set of friends. In my high school, it was never as bad as the movies make it out to be for people from the less popular groups. I rarely saw others picking on them. They usually just kept to themselves and we all actually got along really well. But, then again, in my high school (9th-12th grade) only had 300 people, and I had 99 people in my graduating class. So, my school was fairly small. I did see it more frequently in the Junior High years (6th-8th grade) to people. Hope that answered your question.

Schools in Canada (atleast where i live) are pretty much like that too..my schools not that bad. actually my school is kinda opposite some others schools. like if you are an athletic person then you are popular and if your smart people like you. friendly helps and i dont think people get beat up to much but its not like the kids that apply themselves are shund aside. Anyway my life is pretty plain. I play Hockey on a couple teams, my school team and in a league. I Lovee hockey soo much. I am a girl and so I love boys!! I LOVe to hang out with my family and go for dinner and stay in for the hockey games. i play guitar and LOVELOVELOVE Harry Potter!! diet pop is the best and laughing is the best thing in the world. i dont like drugs and people that think that getting drunk and getting alcohol poisoning is cool..well thats just dumb. i dont know what i want to be when i grow up but i love science..especially sci-fi! I AM CANADIAN!! and i love it!Sister Dia <3

In classes, the students talk and the teacher listens...
When i come back home, my mom makes dinner (and, obviously, i have to help...)
I spend my free time playing computer, reading or going for bike rides with friends, it's pretty cool actually!!!
In weekends.....bah...I HATE WEEKENDS!!! And I'll tell you why....I spend the all Saturday cleaning the house!!! And there's nothing to do on Sundays...the funniest thing I do is staring at the walls
...pfffft...
I don't think there are many traditions, at least, not where i live...
Well...it can be a stupid country....but it's VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL!!! And that's why i like Portugal, because of its beauty!
