I have also heard that tarantulas are harmless...but I don't have the nerve to handle one. I read that we do have them wild in my area, but I've never seen one outside a pet store.

Tarantulas are harmless! (unless you run into a wall tryin' to get away from it ) They're very common here in New Mexico,I've seen & handled lots of 'em.

when we find something like that here (a tarantula),the tropical institute comes to get get under police escort

My funny spider story:

One night while camped on our land,sittin' around the fire with our friends & some adult beverages,I looked down to see a tarantula amblin' toward my wife's foot.I didn't say anything,just watched as he climbed right over her foot & kept going into the darkness.
I thought about pickin' it up & sayin' "Here honey,you have a new friend",but she really doesn't like spiders & I didn't want rum & coke all over me

I sorta act like a girl around them, despite the fact I'm pretty tough from having four older brothers... And something tells me that the spider would laugh and thoroughly enjoy the 'escape the spider' game.

Absolutely. Some people have very bad reactions just as you said Tipper, its a flesh eater.

Edit: I believe the brown recluse was also called the fiddler for the puplish fiddle shape on its back.

I've been "chased" by one more than once! And man, those things get big. I'd swear they have a close relation to Tarantulas by the look of them. However they are 10 times faster than those slow moving spiders.

we dont have any dangerous spiders or snakes
as said before the only dangerous things here are homo sapiens

Yeah, it is also called that. I think I'll steer clear of all those things!!! Creep me out!! We have both Black Widows and Brown Recluse spiders in our area, I believe. Scary stuff.

Really common in my area are wolf spiders. And though they're not as dangerous (by any means) as the black widow's bite or the brown recluse, they are quite mean.
