You are very fortunate to have your Mom close by but how come she has water??
My parents live close by too but I think that if I don't have water, they will not have it either.
I am glad that you still have power and gas and I hope things will get defrosted real soon

If the icoming power and gas freeze solid you're in trouble...sorry couldn't resist that.

Hope it gets better soon. Here any water pipe has to be buried 90cm (close to 3 feet) deep. You're save from 80cm ( 2.62 feet) downward no matter what weather outside. Well as far as I know.

Dammit,we've been without water since Wednesday,it's frozen. This is the 1st time in almost 18 years we've lived here.I know it's due to the snow that melted off the roof & made the area by the house wet & the week of unnaturally cold weather we had,as low as -10 to -15F (-23 to -26C) at night.

My 1st thought was that the heat tape had gone bad,so I replaced that (sooo much fun crawling under the house) but that didn't work.

I had the water guys over to check the meter & it's fine. The pipe's buried 2 feet (61 cm) deep & our frostline is usually only 5" (12.7 cm) deep.

So my next thought was to dig down & expose the pipe to air. Well, some problems with that: 1st I have to remove the railroad ties & stepping stones I have laid down there & guess what? They're frozen to the ground. I managed to get 1 of the ties out by attaching a tow chain to it & pullin' with my Jeep, only to find the ground's frozen solid, even a pick won't cut into it. My next brilliant idea is to tent the whole area with tarps & get a small space heater & run that at least until I can get the stuff out of the ground. Dunno if it'll work, but it might. My other idea after that is to rent a trencher, but I'm not sure I can get it that close to the house.

Just a little while ago I saw the water company guy & he told me they had a 6" water line freeze solid!!!.Most meter-to-house lines are 1".

At least my Mom's house is only 200 yards away,we can shower & get water (I have enough containers for 40 gallons) so we can flush the toilets & do some dishes, though we've been using paper plates & plasticware.

Told the wife we should've bought one of these,we have almost every other piece of camping gear imaginable.

We do still have power & gas,so that's good.

    I am sorry Freddie
I was hoping that 2013 would be a better year without these sad news messages but it seems there is no escaping them
I hope you can enjoy being with them as much as you can for as long as you can and that you can have a proper goodbye
We didn't had the chance to have a proper goodbye with my Hubby...

Well, that's the most fun I've had on a gig in a long time, sure was nice just worryin' about my own playin' & not whether the other guys would screw up.

Looks like it'll turn into a regular thing,I'm takin' my congas,bongos,etc...down on Tuesday for Eric's acoustic jam.Real nice little neighborhood bar, folks are real friendly & I got lots of compliments (go ahead, massage my ego,I love it! )
