It will say it's rusty but it's not after you use the whet stone.

i sharpened the knife already once in the close up of the stone...but i don't know what to do now

you click in the upper left screen in the bed room and cut the strings

make sure you sharpen your knife of that stone you have then you will be able to cut a rope
